The Nar Phu Valley Trek is a remarkable adventure into one of the more remote and less-visited parts of the Annapurna region. The trail takes you through narrow gorges, rugged mountain landscapes and traditional stone-built villages where local life has remained closely connected to its Tibetan heritage. Along the way, you will have time to explore the villages of Phu and Nar, visit monasteries and enjoy peaceful Himalayan scenery away from the busier trekking routes. The highlight of the journey is crossing the high Kang La Pass before descending toward the Annapurna Circuit and the Manang Valley. This trek is physically demanding but offers a memorable combination of nature, culture and mountain adventure.
Begin the journey with a scenic drive from Kathmandu toward Koto. As the road leaves the busy city behind, the landscape gradually changes into green hills, rivers and mountain scenery. After reaching Koto, settle into the teahouse and prepare for the remote trek ahead.
Today you enter the remote Nar Phu valley. The trail follows the river through forests, narrow gorges and rugged mountain terrain. As you gain altitude, the surroundings become quieter and more dramatic. Continue toward Meta and spend the night surrounded by the peaceful Himalayan landscape.
Continue deeper into the valley along a spectacular trail surrounded by cliffs and high mountains. The landscape gradually becomes more alpine as you approach Phu. The traditional village, built into the mountain landscape, offers a fascinating glimpse into the lifestyle and culture of the local communities.
Spend the day exploring Phu and its surroundings. Walk through the old village, visit local monasteries and enjoy views of the surrounding peaks. This slower day also gives your body time to adjust to the higher altitude before continuing the trek.
Leave Phu behind and follow the trail back toward the main valley. The route takes you through rugged landscapes and quiet mountain paths before reaching Nar Phedi. Enjoy a peaceful evening at the teahouse and rest for the next stages of the trek.
Continue climbing toward the historic village of Nar. The landscape becomes increasingly open as you gain altitude. After reaching Nar, take some time to explore the village and experience its traditional stone houses and mountain surroundings.1
Take a slower day in Nar to rest and explore the surrounding area. Walk around the village, enjoy views of the mountains and learn more about the traditional lifestyle of the local community. This acclimatization day is important before the demanding Kang La Pass crossing.
Today is one of the most challenging and rewarding days of the trek. Start early and climb toward Kang La Pass. After reaching the pass, enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks before making the long descent toward Ngawal. It is a demanding day, but the scenery makes the effort worthwhile.
Leave Ngawal and continue through the upper Manang Valley. The trail passes through beautiful mountain landscapes and traditional settlements before reaching Manang. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this well-known Himalayan village.
Begin descending through the Marsyangdi Valley toward Chame. The landscape gradually becomes greener as you lose altitude, with forests, rivers and mountain villages appearing along the trail. Reach Chame and enjoy a comfortable evening at the teahouse.
Continue your journey through forests and traditional villages along the Marsyangdi Valley. The trail becomes easier as you descend toward Dharapani. Enjoy the final walking section of your Nar Phu adventure and relax in the village.
After breakfast, begin the drive back toward Kathmandu. Enjoy the changing scenery as the mountain landscape gives way to green hills and settlements. Your Nar Phu Valley adventure comes to an end after reaching Kathmandu.
